UNJUSTIFIED

A Short Film
Written by Maurice Redwood

The Story

‘Unjustified’ is a short film that exposes the realities of shifting paradigms of race and privilege. When a Black police officer shoots and kills a white teenager and the domino effects of a corrupt justice system. Told from the flipped perspective of white people in a system that does not look like them, and how deeply rooted injustice is planted in systems of power.  When a young white teenager is shot and killed by a black police officer, the family is thrust into a vortex of emotions and hard truths about the world we live in.  Not only up against a predominantly black police department, but also high ranking officials in the justice system who are also Black, will the family weather the racial storm and finally receive justice for their son?

The goal of this project is to  provide creative opportunities for the Black arts community in Pittsburgh, more specifically Pittsburgh’s Black film community. The film’s artistry, authentic voice and film collaboration are essential to creating a project for us and produced by us, and also creates jobs and employment opportunities for local artists, while strengthening artists’ networks and relationships with Black artists in diverse artistic genres.  Your contributions will not only help us to produce this film, but It will also demonstrate your support for community artists and the growth of our artistic community.
